Help us build a Nashville where everyone is welcome.
Train on BluePath. Assess Nashville venues. Come to the gatherings. Bring your hands and your voice to work that's actually moving the city forward.
You're Welcome.
Every Verified business happened because a volunteer showed up.
Access Music City runs on volunteers. Every accurate BluePath listing, every Block Party assessment, every welcoming AMC Evening: a trained volunteer made it happen.
This isn't box-checking accessibility work. Volunteers are co-builders of Nashville's accessibility infrastructure. One storefront today. A whole neighborhood next quarter. A Verified city by 2034. Your time compounds.
Choose how you want to show up.
BluePath Assessor
On-site assessment work. You complete BluePath training, then assess Nashville businesses: restaurants, hotels, attractions, music venues. Structured, deliberate work that builds the directory one venue at a time.
No prior experience required.
Training covers the BluePath assessment tool, disability etiquette and language, and the specifics of measuring and documenting access features. Training is led by Empower Tennessee staff and experienced volunteers, including volunteers with disabilities. You'll shadow before you solo.
Community Ambassador
Outreach, event support, and recruitment. You represent Access Music City at community events, help host AMC Evenings, and bring new volunteers and businesses into the program.
You can do both. Many volunteers start with one pathway and add the other as they find their footing.
Save your seat.

Bring a team. Change a district.
Corporate volunteer teams are welcome and needed. An AMC Block Party coordinates a trained volunteer team to assess a whole neighborhood or business district in a single day. Meaningful for the team. Visible for the city. Real for the businesses.
Here's what an assessment actually looks like.
Assessments are scheduled in advance with the business. You arrive with the BluePath tool, move through the space, measure and document, and complete the report before you leave. Most assessments take two to three hours. Volunteers work in pairs when possible, especially at the start.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Access Music City volunteers include people with and without disabilities. The program is led by and for people with disabilities, and we need both lived experience and allied support to do the work well.
-
Flexible. Some volunteers do one assessment a month. Some do a Block Party a quarter. Some do more, some less. You set the pace.
-
Helpful but not required. We can pair you with a volunteer who drives, and many assessments are in walkable or transit-accessible areas.
-
That's part of the work. BluePath describes what's there, including barriers. Volunteers do not evaluate, grade, or shame. We document, honestly and neutrally.
-
Some Community Ambassador work can be done remotely: recruitment, outreach, social media support. Assessor work is on-site.
-
No formal minimum. We ask for honesty about your availability so we can match you with work that fits your life.
-
We pair when possible, especially for new assessors. You'll shadow before you solo, and you'll have a program contact for questions at any point.
-
You stop. No guilt. This is volunteer work, and sustainability matters.
-
Yes, and if something isn't, tell us and we'll fix it. The program is led by and for people with disabilities, and our training is built the same way. If you have access needs we haven't thought of yet, email amc@empowertn.org and we'll work it out together.
